Longwood's Grand Opening
Hi all:
Last Friday night Longwood unveiled its new East Conservatory and
gardens. Approximately 30 members of GWA joined 1000 other guests at a
marvelous reception. An earlier press conference had all of us gathered in
the grand court for a presentation by the foundation board president and the
designer of the new additions. It was a quite an event with food and wine
tastings provided by several of the local wineries. Longwood is very well
designed to have one heck-of-a party such as this. It was wonderful! Check
out the details at www.longwoodgardens.org.
By all means, if you can arrange your schedule, you should try to attend
next summer's symposium where Longwood is hosting the Sunday night banquet.
By then, in addition to the new conservatory, they will have opened a new
Camelia house and possibly the new children's garden. The same wineries
will hopefully still be serving their delicious blends and brands.
Stay tuned to the Local Arrangement Committee's new web site for
developing details of the tour. The bones of the site can currently be
found at www.gwa2006.org. It has a link to the information you received on
the promotional CD that was handed out at the Vancouver conference. Which,
by the way, still has several prizes still unclaimed. Please check all of
your discs. You, too, may have won that wonderful collection of Spring
Meadow plants to be delivered at the appropriate spring planting time!
Finally, send all of your Region II newsletter news to me this month.
Deadline is next Wednesday...
