I just did an article about this for Angie's List's 
magazine...Sansevieria, Abutilon, heartleaf philodendron (P. 
scandans) and a newer one, the ZZ plant (Zamioculcas zamiifolia), 
were the recommendations I got from hort experts in the Midwest.

You might check with the Florida Nursery Growers and Landscape Association
http://www.fngla.org/
to see if it has stats on best selling houseplants/tropicals. Contact 
is Jennifer Nelis, (800) 375-3642. She's a member of GWA
