Re: Garden Thugs - 3 Biggest

I'll vote for Aegopodium podagraria, Artemisia vulgaris 'Oriental Limelight', and Convallaria majalis, good ol' lily of the valley, which I can't get rid of and which looks horrible very soon after it flowers so prettily here in Z6 PA.

Sheri, it may very much depend on where you live, how thuggish some
plants are. Stuff that is rampant elsewhere tends to die back here
(Atlantic Canada, USDA zones 5a-6b for the most part) so that it's not
a problem, a good case in point being Buddleia, which rarely even
overwinter for many of us. Same with Chinese forgetmenots, Cynoglossum
amabile; they self seed a little here but tend to dwindle away rather
than become overenthusiastic.

I'd rank the top 5 real problem plants (that people actually purchase
and plant) for my region, based on the queries I get about controlling
them, as being:

Goutweed (ak bishop's weed, snow on the mountain, ground elder, or
Aegopodium podegraria)
Chinese bittersweet vine, Celastrus orbiculatus
Variegated ribbon grass/gardener's garters, Phalaris arundinacea
Norway maples, Acer platanoides
Chinese Lanterns, Physalis alkekengi

Being a curious person, I'd dearly like to see what people list
'across the continent' and beyond, of course.
