Garden Thugs
Years ago, I gave a friend on the Delaware shore a couple of monarda plants that were failing in my Baltimore garden -- along with a vigorous pot of lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) to help "fill in" her empty beds. 14 years later, she is STILL pulling the plants out with both hands. Fortunately, she still speaking to me -- and I've given her some desirable beauties in the intervening years.
Here in the South Carolina Piedmont, I rue the day I planted Gaura lindheimeri -- cut it down, pull it out, smother it with mulch, and it's still here ... and spreading.
