garden thugs

Q: ASIDE from Ivy, bamboo, and vinca, WHAT PLANT  IS IN YOUR GARDEN (or a client's garden) that you wish you had NEVER  planted there due to its aggressive, spreading , thuggish nature?

A: Bishop's weed (Aegepodium); chameleon plant (Houttuynia cordata); golden creeping Jenny (Lysimachia nummularia 'Aurea'); mint (obviously!) (Mentha spp.); and lemon balm ( Melissa officinalis ).

Also, I use a lot of Midwestern native plants and as I would never label them "thugs," many can be somewhat aggressive--Black-eyed Susan (Rudbeckia fulgida and R. hirta) , purple coneflower (Echinacea spp.), New England aster, obedient plant (Physostegia virginiana) and Maximilian sunflower (Helianthus maximiliani) come to mind.
