Re: [GWL]: Idiotic questions

This will amuse you:

The owners of my local nursery (father and daughter) are very bad at
pronouncing plant names. Worse yet, they think they are right and will
actually correct customers who use the correct pronunciation!

How about telling everyone that heuchera is pronounced hoo-CHAIR-ah....

Or when I said "Buddleia", I was corrected: "You mean Bud-EEL-ee-ah." I
wanted to point out that there is no vowel between the D and the L, but felt
it would be rude.

I later worked there for a couple of months and was told not to use Latin
names at all because I would "scare the customers away"; so no matter what
cultivar of Heuchera I was describing, I was to say "Coral Bells."

A client always calls Euonymous "Anonymous".

I read an interesting thing on the Apline e-list: The plant I have always
called "Aubretia" is actually spelled "Aubrieta", but the misspelling has
made it into some plant dictionaries as an alternative spelling.
