Re: [GWL]: New Items
i received a freebie collection from Terra Nova Nurseries that included an
amazing polygonum among the nice heucheras and tiarellas that dominated.
alas, it's zone 9, but Polygonum orientale 'Shiro-gane Nishiki' quickly grew
from 6 inches to 5 feet with a very strong central stem that has stood
straight up despite the whipping wind that roars in from the west between my
house and the next door neighbor's. the leaves are variegated and up to 6
inches long and sort of suede-velvety. flowers are a nice pink and once it
started blooming, the plant turned into a vertitable candelabra of arching
pink flowers. Terra Nova says its true from seed, so i'm definitely going to
want to grow this again. i'm in Chicago. carolyn ulrich
