But I don't have any understock.
Or experience grafting. ( Might be a good time to bone up on it, eh? ) Diana Politika The Greenhouse Nursery Port Angeles, WA Zone 8 Hello Diana:
I have had some success with citrus cuttings on my sunporch. Have mostly used new growthwood with some
traces of wood showing on
the basal end of the
cuttings.
I used a spent gallon jug of windshield
wiper fluid as a mini greenhouse.
Cut the top off and on the bottom cut 5
small holes for air circulation.
I fashioned a flap large enough to get
the head of a spray bottle inside the
flap to irrigate without disturbing the
cuttings.
Took cuttings direct from citrus right to
prepared medium. (Nothing special-
just Pete's pro mix) No IBA's were used.
Just gave the cuttings a really
good splash after literally sticking them in the medium after trimming
off all
but the last 2 or 3 leaves on the stick/s-cutting/s.
Covered the pot with the whitish colored
plastic mini greenhouse and set it
right on top of the soil and then placed
the pot in a spot that is warm and
get's
diffused sun. Kept an eye on it to make
sure the cuttings remained mainly moist
but not soaked and within a month, the
cuttings developed "new
growth."
I have yet to try this on my Meyer
lemon but may, just to see, if Meyer is
propagatable (is that a word?)
Best of growing,
~Gianni
