I don't speak out often, but this one was just too much fun. How can there be any question of the correct spelling of Sphagnum? The word, when used in connection with peat moss, refers to the genus name of the moss used - Sphagnum. I went to the taxonomic references and all the ones I checked spell it Sphagnum. I suspect someone's poor printing at some time led to the h being substituted for an n.
On the mouse/keyboard/laptop thing - there are a couple of different thingies being sold (for Macs, at least) that prop a laptop into a whole lot more comfortable using position on a table or desk. That would eliminate "hot lap" too. I'm sure whatever is available for Macs is likely to have more than one counterpart for PCs. Just for the record - I love a split keyboard. In fact, I just bought a replacement for my first one today. It was 3 years old. It took about a week to get used to and then I didn't want to go back. Wish I had one on my laptop.
