Re: Book Organization

Hi Sheri,

I'm going to combine this question and its resulting question about
articles and catalogs into one answer.

I have a four-drawer filing cabinet dedicated to gardening stuff.
The bottom two drawers (now overflowing) have all of the gardening
catalogs alphabetized by supplier. The top two drawers contain
file folders filled with various articles, etc, alphabetized by
   subject.

I hate cutting up my magazines (I don't know why, I just do), so if
I find an article that's interesting I photocopy it and put it into
the appropriate file folder. I have file folders on general gardening
topics as well as specific taxa and genera.

The magazines go into plastic box 'things' with lids (I think I get
them at K-Mart for aboout $4.00), and I can store a year's worth in
a single box easily. The boxes then go into storage in the basement.

My books are all on bookshelves in my office and are losely arranged
by category. However, I keep the most useful books on the shelf over
my desk. The more valuable books (like Bean or Rickett's Wild Flowers
of the United States) are kept separately on metal surfaces to avoid
wear and tear and vapor damage.

The computer books that used to be there are losing the battle for
space and have mostly been moved downstairs to the basement. I only
have half a shelf left in the office for computer books. And I won't
even get into the amount of space that slide storage is taking up. :)
