Re: gardenwriters digest, Vol 1 #184 - 6 msgs

About the organic gardening topic: I grow herbs organically in my huge
backyard. I sent off to the state of Texas to get their paperwork for
applying to be able to use the organically grown label. One of the
requirements is that you have to grow your organic whatever at least 25'
from any other property that is not also certifiably organic. That shoots me
right out of the water because the property next to me has passed ownership
probably five or six times just since I moved here seven years ago. The
owners do nothing but mow (if I'm lucky!) and certainly do not apply any
type of chemicals to the overgrown mess they call a backyard, yet I can't
possibly get them to agree to also be organically certified. But I can't use
the label. I guess one has to live on acreage to even be able to apply. Too
bad for us small-timers just trying to make some extra bucks with quality
edibles.
