Death of Fine Gardener and Human Being
Nona Koviala, of All America Selections and president of GWA, emailed with
the information that Ted Marston died yesterday morning. He was a wonderful
gardener and sweet man. He contributed much to the formation and prospering
of Garden Writers Association. He was a past president. His passion for
the organization and for gardening are well known. And, his kind guidance
was there for everyone.
At the first GWA symposium I attending in Boston in 1997, Ted went out of
his way to make me feel welcome and to make sure that I was getting the
information I wanted and needed from the workshops. He always went out of
his way for everyone.
Ted was at the Seattle symposium in August, and he assured me that he would
be attending the next one in Chicago, because he didn't want to miss the
Chicago Botanic Gardens. The next time I visit CBG, I will have to bow my
head for a minute of quiet reflection on Ted and his generous soul.
