* One of the most intriguing wholesale-retail nurseries in the U.S. has
changed hands. Kim Hawks sold Niche Gardens in Chapel Hill, N.C., to former
employee Blair Durant. Opened in 1986, Niche specializes in North American
native perennials, with an emphasis on Southeast natives. 919.967.0078.

* Renee Shepherd is celebrating this month. The owner of the seed company
Renee's Gardens reacquired a portion of another company she founded,
Shepherd's Garden Seedsâ€š packet business for garden retailers. "Buying back
this part of Shepherd's Garden Seeds, the company I started out of my home
well over a decade ago, is a gratifying way to put Humpty Dumpty back
