Title: Re: [GWL] Was Testing--publishers needed
Although I am a publisher myself, I can't say much
about children's books except that they are very hard to market. Good luck, Lon.
The best advice I can offer is to try to find an agent specializing in
children's literature. Literary Marketplace (LMP) would be a good
reference.
Meanwhile, for all of you who are interested in
self publishing or marketing your own books, there's a free offer going this
week from Microsoft. Dan Poynter's book is available. Here are the details,
quoted from his newsletter:
-------------quoted from Dan
Poynter----------
MICROSOFT OFFERS THE SELF-PUBLISHING MANUAL AS A F-R-E-E DOWNLOAD for one week-only. You can get The Self-Publishing Manual at no charge if you act now. Microsoft has purchased the one week serial rights to many bestsellers. They give away three each week. Only the current promotion titles are available for download: Microsoft cannot provide copies of previously-offered titles. To get your copy at no charge, go to http://www.microsoft.com/reader/promotions/free_shop.asp -----------------end of quote-----------------
I have this book as a paperback (it's great!) but my copy is an older
edition. So I went to the site and got the eBook reader and Dan's new edition
with up-to-date addresses of publishing resources, reviewers, etc. The
eBook has active links to websites. I had to sign up for various
things before receiving the program and book -- who knows whether my
privacy has been compromised.
It all worked well enough and I paged through the book, on screen, no
problem.
Each week, there are three free eBooks one may download from the Microsoft
site.
The purpose of the Microsoft offer is to get more people to install their
brand of eBook reader software, so that more people will buy eBooks in the
future. They are also offering free software for writers and publishers who wish
to create their own eBook products. I might as well download that, too. It lets
you turn your documents into eBooks. I'll tell you how it goes...
With best wishes,
Betty Betty Mackey, Publisher
