Re: Organic Fertilizers

After being Certified organic for many years, it is a hard lifestyle to break.  For most stuff (veggies etc) I use MaxiCrop - it comes in consumer appealing containers and works fine.  For general shrubs and large areas I was using products from the Fertrell company (Ohio, I think).  They do granular organic fertilizers but they are geared more to farmers and thus the bags are not eye catching and attractive, which is important for comercial retailers.

Since moving into surburbia again - I found the lawn care company also has an organic option - no weed control in it yet.  That seems to have worked fine - but we had a wet summer.  For the potted plants that I picked up at Walmart - I fertilized with walmart straight from the bottle stuff - they are hanging over a concrete driveway and only got fertilized twice this summer, so I truly don't think chemicals would get into the groundwater.

I don't think that radical organic preaching that makes people feel guilty about picking up a bag of potting soil (with sythetic wetting agents etc) is as effective as informing the community about IPM and less toxic alternatives.
