Imagekind
I signed up at a Print on Demand site for artists and photographers called
Imagekind (www.imagekind.com) . Have any of you heard of it? Used it? Know
the background?
They offer free virtual gallery space up to 24 images, or for a modest
amount you can buy more space. They employ curators to approve "galleries"
for public showing, but anyone can have a private gallery. Visitors can
order the images as wall-sized prints, framed or unframed. Members can leave
comments on other members' work. There's an array of mats and frames, and
also stretched canvas prints. If someone buys your image you receive the
difference between your markup and the basic cost of the printing and
framing. This site is still in beta testing. Alpha testing started in
midsummer.
So far I haven't sold a thing but it has been fun seeing all the artwork
posted on the site -- participants come from around the world in addition to
the USA. My impression is that there are a lot of artists using the site but
not so many shoppers. I really enjoy the work that is shown although plant
nomenclature is not so strong there.
It does point up the vast difference between an artistic photograph (more
mystery!) and one intended as an illustration, like most of mine.
