Julie,
CL's advice is all very good...will help sell books. I'd also
add, that garden clubs, arboretums, etc. are always looking for speakers for
their (typically) monthly meetings. They never pay much but do provide you
with a ready-made audience, and quite a few people will want to buy signed
copies of your book afterwards. There are hundreds of garden clubs in
California (and other states besides). They always treat authors well, feed
you, fuss over you, and are pleased to see you....sure beats working the
book stores!
