I think you answered your own question. Sounds like the paper is paying
you to market yourself. I do not find the language scary, but typical of
large publishers, although rather too all-encompasing.
Probably the most logical way to decide whether the price is right is to
look at the combined circulation of all four newspapers. What would you
have charged a newspaper with that circulation for your column?
The other point to look at is, if everyone else is going along with their
terms, what's the most likely outcome of holding out for more and how
much do you care?
