recommending my agent
This is wonderful of Amy, Doug and C.L to share their agents' info, and for the agents to be open to it. Thank you to all.
My experience has been that it is harder to get an agent than it is to get a publisher. First, not all agents are alike, and I am not just talking about ability, though of course that is critical, but there is quite a lot of specialization and an agent who has not done garden related books may not be the right agent for a garden writer. I tried very hard to get an agent after my first book was published and it was like pulling teeth to get any to even talk or reply to an email. At least publishers send rejection letters, many agents just ignore you. Perhaps it's because as a photographer I am really interested in someone who has some knowledge and experience in working with photography books. Maybe now that I have three under my belt I'll have better luck, as I do have a couple of ideas to shop around.
I agree that having a good agent is so much better than doing it on one's own. So again, thanks for the names and Amy, thanks for the thread!
