Donna,

I second Steve's thought re Cat Stop. Not sure it's the same thing my  
daughter gave me, but it sounds like it. Doesn't cost much, she found it in  
Gardner's Supply catalog. While it's made to keep cats out of containers (which 
 is what she used it for with her cat) I found it very useful in keeping 
big  birds out of the bird feeder. The doves were coming to the feeder, which 
has a  fair sized tray at the bottom to keep seed from falling on the lawn 
or patio,  and the doves were squatting there and gorging themselves, and 
keeping the  smaller birds at bay. The cat stop stuff works fine--it has little 
spikes that  stick up, can be cut to shape for a round container, small 
birds can still get  to the feeder ok, but the doves are persuaded not to sit 
there.
