Re: Question About Building Websites
Lorraine, any time you make a website using a "wizard" tool that is part of the host website, instead of building your own website from scratch and posting it onto the host, you are vulnerable. The web host can disappear altogether, or it can change or update its wizard so that your old web pages can no longer be changed or shown. If possible, get a website-making program and learn how to use it.
This happened to me six years ago. For years before that I had made my bookselling website with a wizard within Hostway.com, using PayPal carts which I pasted into the pages. Suddenly Hostway did not support the old wizard and the new wizard did not allow me to make a site with the same page names or number of pages as before. This led to consumers getting cached Google search results which led to now-dead pages.
My response was to buy Adobe GoLive and lock myself into my office for several days, learn the software to a functioning level, and rebuild my site with page names that simulated the site as it had been. I am still using this old software but there are many up-to-date alternatives. WebPlus is one of them and is inexpensive. Take control! Good luck!
