Re: Seed Question
Hello Lorraine,
It takes more than two seasons before you can determine a variety is stable. I suggest keep saving the seed from the best plants and if you saw a uniform crop this season that is promising. I think Johnny's would be a good company to contact because they've had a squash breeding program for awhile. The one other thing I reluctantly add is the butternut squashes have often been selected for smaller sizes because the large ones don't mature in every area. If you decide to go this on your own for a few years try to observe which plants fruit earliest and if they are also large specimens. It's a lot of tagging and note taking but fun. Good luck.
Best,
Rose Marie Nichols McGee

We saved the seeds to see if they would come true in 2013 and indeed they did. I shared the seeds with other gardeners/testers and they also had the same results. So now I think I may have something to sell to one of the seed companies.
