What an interesting thread.  For good reasons or bad, it was a magical time
at Rodale back there in the late 70's and early 80's before Bob Rodale was
killed in that bus accident in Russia.  Visiting the Rodale Research Farm
was great fun with all the different greenhouses, cold frames, and gadgets
built in the shop in Emmaus.
As I ponder what kind of solution might exist to this problem of needing a
good magazine about all the fascinating stuff going on to try to heal the
ecological disaster man is perpetrating upon himself, I've decide the
solution is for Taunton Press to come out with a new magazine, "Ecological
Gardening".  It will replace the Kitchen Gardening that went down last year
and be a nice companion to Fine Gardening.  It can focus on vegetable
gardening, but really work on stuff going on around fixing the soil, giving
plants what they need to avoid stress, and how to have ecological health in
the landscape that is moving towards low maintenance.  Fine Gardening talks
about neat new flowering shrubs while Ecological Gardening talks about
restoring root fungi for shrubs and trees.  Stuff like that.
Well, now that that problem is solved......I must get back to work.
