Re: [GWL]: OG - a new title for organic gardening

John,

Yes I do think that authors, photographers, and illustrators should be
paid for their creative efforts for each time their work is used unless
the materials were created while employed full time by the
magazine/publisher.

It is unfortunate that management misjudgment frequently is the cause of
business financial problems, but efforts to stem the red ink rarely
involves firing the management that caused the problems.

Pencil pushers would fill a publication totally with reprinted articles
if it resulted in a bonus in their pockets. Some managemeent types would
rather trample on individual rights while company attorneys use legal
maneuvers to create expensive obstacles to delay paying an individual
fair payment for their services.

Many companies currently use part time employees or out source jobs to
independent contractors because a full time employee requires the
payment of overtime, and fringe benefits such as retirement, health
care, vacation time, and sick pay.

If there are any ethical or moral reasons to justify nonpayment for
creative works to individuals, living or dead, who own the rights to the
materials, I can't think of them.
