Here's an option to consider for personal memorial gardens.  A few years ago, the Mediterranean gardening listserv was dealt a shock when one of our most active members was murdered.  Gary Matson and his partner Winfield Mowder were murdered by two brothers who hated them merely because they were a gay couple.  Some newspaper reports said that the brothers had worked for the pair several years before and had known them for some time.

Gary was especially well known and respected in Northern California as a horticulturist who helped found the Redding Arboretum and a local science museum.  The two men ran a mailorder nursery called Plants to Go (www.plantstogo.com)  On the listserv, Gary was often the first to respond to a query and his information was topnotch.

As you might imagine, we all were virtual friends -- being scattered throughout the world.  Helplessness, anger, confusion reigned among the members.  We needed to do something, but what?

The garden takes contributions from anyone who is interested.  There is a guestbook on-line as well.
