Jeff, the concern you expressed was my motivation for sending the piece to this list -- I know plant names but I am not always comfortable with animal names. It is an excellent point. Thankfully, I knew Mary would have the answer regarding earthworms...Garden writers seem comfortable with latin names of plants, but I wonder if they observe the same rigor with the latin names of species of earthworms.
