Where did the idea that compost tea had to be aerated to be effective come from? I subscribe to Dr. Ingham's Soil Science list, but apparently the aeration factor was decided before I subscribed. Suppose you advise readers to use aerated compost tea as a foliar spray to kill a certain disease. Does your state agriculture dept. land on you for advising the use of a pesticide contrary to its label instructions? I don't know what the depts. of ag do about people using a strong jet of water to kill aphids either.
I've been threatened with jail and a fine for advising the use of corn gluten meal as a pre-emergent herbicide. I broke the letter of the law, but not the spirit of the law. I'm sure I'd get the same treatment if I advised people to spray with milk to kill fungal diseases. I have resorted to writing "some people have found a milk spray effective" in controlling botrytis or early blight. It's a moot point for me now that I've been laid off, but how do the rest of you handle that kind of thing? Thanks, Margaret Lauterbach
Not sure how many companies are brewing but I got a call from a reader that owns an orgaic produce farm who says they've been brewing their own for over a year and now our tree company. I suspect there are several but very localized.
