Autumn Leaves' Color?

Now, I know why leaves change color in the fall, but the question is why they're different hues.  It seems like it'd have a simple answer, but it doesn't.  I've seen at least three different explanations.

My article that dealt with it has already gone to press, so it's too late to change what I wrote.  I'd like to know, though, if I was at least on the right track.  The editor needed it "yesterday" so I was in a hurry - ever been there?  Next time I vow not to be in such a rush.
