Re: gardenwriters Digest, Vol 8, Issue 43

Mycorrhizal fungi really don't do well with any fertilizer numbers over 10.
They also don't like compaction.

I THINK one of the distinctions has to be the size of the pot and the size
of the root system. If the plant has a large root system in a small pot, it
won't need mycorrhizal fungi to "go out and get food" because the plant
roots have enough exposure to the fertilizer applied or nutrient in the
soil. And, Monrovia uses them so they are in the soil when you transplant,
I do believe, not so much to get a good looking plant to sell (though the
mycorrhizal apparently helps).

You may be interested to know that Monrovia is now distributing its own
compost tea brewer made by KIS. They are believers and users as are other
nurseries, golf courses, farms and homes!

But you do have to have adequately made tea with good fungi and bacteria
numbers. and adequate protozoa and nematodes.

Cheers,

Jeff L
