Title: sears
Sears Grand rollout features nursery dept. Sears is back in the plant business. Its 1st Sears Grand megastore is designed to be a 1-stop shop, complete with a nursery, toys, some groceries and a tire-and-battery center under the same roof as tools, electronics and clothing. The stand-alone store near Salt Lake City measures 208,000 sq. ft. -- nearly as large as the biggest Wal-Mart Supercenter and more than twice the size of the average 90,000-sq.-ft. Sears store inside a mall. The Grand store is a prototype for a planned move of as many as 300 smaller mall-based Sears stores to free-standing sites. Sears plans to open 5 Grand stores by mid-2005. The 2nd and smallest, at 165,000 sq. ft., will open in April in Gurnee, Ill., (the only one without a plant nursery); the 3rd in early August in Las Vegas; the 4th in late 2004 in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., and the 5th in mid-2005, most likely in Austin, Texas.
