Re: original KnockOut rose

Hi, Carolyn -- my Knock Out red is about 4 1/2 to 5-feet tall, but I
didn't get it cut back this year. Bill Radler says to cut it back in
half in spring. Also, he says no deadheading.

And for me, someone who really dislikes thorny plants, he recommended
the Knock Out Double Pink, which he says has very few thorns. How
fortunate that's what we got from Novalis.

Throughout my gardening life, I've not been a rose person. I have no
tea roses, but these shrub and landscape roses are hard to beat for
consistant color all summer and low maintenance. And the older my
Carefree Delight got, the more hips it produced, giving it winter
interest. Knock Out had hips its second year, too. My Carefree
Delight reached 5 feet, too, althought it was only suppposed to be in
the 3-foot range.

Lady Elsie May, which we got a couple years ago from Angelina
Nurseries, is gorgeous and the new intros from Spring Meadow (O So
Sweet series) look promising.
