Peppers as Cut Flowers

>From GMPRo ezine this week:

Capsicum could become cut alternative
Researchers at USDA's Beltsville Ag. Research Center are developing
varieties of Capsicum for use as cut flowers. Plant geneticists Rob
Griesbach and John Stommel have been working with PanAmerican Seed and
McCorkle Nurseries to develop and trial varieties. Selections are based on
growth habit, height, leaf size, leaf shape, leaf color, fruit shape, fruit
color, fruit size and fruit position. The geneticists are able to breed many
combinations by manipulating the diverse Capsicum genome, Griesbach said.
Researchers are looking for input from growers about what qualities they'd
like to see in cut peppers.
