Moving into the post-lawn era

Susan Harris' email about the anti-lawn movement reminded me to point  
out that this month's Sunset Magazine ("the" magazine for gardening in  
the west) has a whole section devoted to landscaping without lawn.

And, on page 49, there is a column by yours truly (and my photo too!)  
with suggestions for how to get rid of lawn.

It doesn't appear to be on-line yet....unfortunately.  But there are  
several examples of lawn-less landscapes on-line that are fun to look  
at.
