Re: Internet in Raleigh
Tom - No argument that many folks don't bring electronics to the
conference. But push that out to a monthly connection fee of $300 for wi-fi
is a little excessive when the costs of providing that service are in the
fitfy-cents a day range. When Super8 motels at 49.00/night down Hwy 81
offer free wi-fi and breakfast - you just gotta wonder. Nah, you don't have
to wonder - captive audience etc etc. at a conference.
That's their business model - and their biz decision. Not one I'd support
but if you don't have to cater to the traveling business person, then you
don't have to worry too much about services such as this. Casual conference
attendees would have the same reaction as you do - what's another $10/bucks
a day?
If I have to pay for it - it only becomes part of the week's story and part
of the hotel review. To be part of the searchable reviews/record for the
Marriott chain. ;-) And a tax receipt of course.
But still - you have to wonder at the wisdom of annoying a bunch of media
folks for a few thousand bucks. ;-)
