Re: house plants soil mold


Plenty common; mushrooms are also not unheard of.  In my experience  
the fertilizer salts collect on the rims of terra cotta pots where  
mold is on the surface of the potting mix.

Assuming correct i.d. of the problem, your reader is probably watering  
too frequently.  Please make sure they understand the difference  
between quantity and frequency.  The amount of water should always be  
enough to flow through the drainage holes (thorough wetting of the  
medium) no matter what plant you're watering.  It's the frequency that  
changes according to the variables (interior temps, humidity,  
composition of potting mix, porosity of container) of the individual  
home.
