wedding trees
Colleen, for background info on commemorative trees, with a great photo by Ken Druse, here's a link to an article in Old-House Journal (Jan-Feb 1998):
http://books.google.com/books?id=mg6wFsraoh0C&lpg=PA28&ots=zE6UEIHlaq&dq=tree%20peddlers%20nina%20koziol&pg=PA28#v=onepage&q=tree%20peddlers%20nina%20koziol&f=false
The Austrian pine that I wrote about in that article is still thriving in spite of canker; it's likely one of the oldest if not the oldest in Illinois. It was planted in 1848 as a pair of husband-and-wife trees. The "wife" tree (the smaller of the two) died in 1900 and was replaced by a younger model--isn't that so often the case?
