Re: NYTimes article on Roundup


That's a very interesting article, Teri and while none of us endorses the use of any herbicide or pesticide in the big picture, we have to be careful about extrapolating the effects any product has on farming and agriculture where its used repeatedly over decades on a monoculture vs a landscape or garden where a product might be used occasionally, often only once, on a heterogenous mixture of plants.  

This article also seems to mix up the farmers' observations of using GMOs and using glyphosate.  While one point of these GMOs is to allow the farmers to use glyphosate, the two and their effects are not the same.  

>From a scientific standpoint, its important to tweeze apart which of the negative effects come from using GMO corn and which are the result of using glyphosate  - that comes only from testing each one separately to see which (if either) is the cause of the stunted corn, etc.  

Its really important to read these kinds of articles with a critical eye to determine what is conjecture, what is suspicion, and what might actually be a validated conclusion.
