Re: Conundrum

been there, done that with the exception of being stung. I have never been
stung even though I've torn open many a nest. not sure why. I know I move
very slowly.

can I assume the current compost pile is now torn apart?

if not, and if your little friends are still there, why not drown them?
according to your explanation (and that is as good a word as any) there
should be a pick hole in the top of the pile.
good place for a hose.

at the nursery, where we get many wasps and hornets nests due to the
abundance of prey, we use a foam aerosol. these cans come with a teeny tiny
little straw to stick on the nozzle. don't use it-it severely restricts the
amount of wasp-killing foam that comes out.

we usually spray around 0600 when most of them are still having a snooze.
they're relatively dopey and slow so the procedure is- spray the entrance
to the nest- with vigour and enthusiasm- if one press on the nozzle is
effective, press 7 times. then pick away (or pry) at the entrance slowly
exposing the tunnels and their lair, spraying 7 times 7 all the while.

this has proven the most effective and the safest over the years.

perhaps a bee person will tell you to chill them with smoke and then bust
them apart.

good luck
