A caution and a question:

Caution: If you use the polymers, rehydrate them before you mix them into the soil. I have had plants pushed completely out of their holes when I mixed the granules in dry and then rehydrated by watering.

Question: I've long known about the 1 inch per week mentioned by Schmidt. Fairly easy to guage when you are using an over head sprinkler. But I use soaker hoses for the hostas. How does one know how long to run the soaker to achieve that 1 inch (I have a flow controller that delivers 1 gph, btw)?
