Anne if they are only an inch high most anything will protect them. Just put
some mulch over the crowns but be sure to pull it back as soon as the cold
spell is over. When you are faced with some that are 20 inches high and
over four feet across that is a problem.
This morning we had snow, sleet and rain plus cold wind.

Subject: cover up or replant?
I hae a few hosta that have been pushed up out of the soil slightly. Is
it better to put more dirt on top of them (they are about an inch higher
than they should be) or should I dig them up and replant them a bit deeper?
Thanks.
