When you are addicted, it is not easy to stay away from it.  I know because my husband is an alcoholic who has been recovering for the last 30 years, after trying to stop MANY times.  (He has not had any alcohol for almost 30 years.) It is NOT unusual with addiction to try to stop many times.  Having heard AA and NA stories most of thirty years, AND having a two year old grandson killed by a drunk driver, I wish people could just quit!!!  My heart aches over anyone who tries to quit once, twice, thrice, etc. and still goes back to it.  If they can't quit, then they need to be in jail to protect the rest of us.  I say that and yet feel bad for them and anyone close to them.
