Clyde,
When we put our garden pond in a couple of years ago, we went to the nearby
limestone cliffs, sliced off some small sections of moss, and laid them
right on the new little limestone waterfall/ledge. They have flourished
and have needed no care.
I think that the rule of thumb is, plant a moss in a situation like it was
growing in to begin with. I don't think that there are many mosses that
like limestone, but here in Indiana, if there is one (and ours seems to not
mind it), you'll find it.
