This past weekend a friend and I went on the "West Central Minnesota
Free-Range Hosta Hunt"--so named by us. Saturday night, exhausted from a
day in the hot sun and thumbing through our silver books, she suggested
we follow through on an idea to plant a "naughty" hosta garden. We put
together a brief list--I'm sharing it because I think it might give a
few laughs--not to worry, it's not disgusting and even sounds kind of
Victorian:
'Excitable Gentleman'
'Love Burst'
'Nooner'
'Robert's Rapier'
'Dick's Delight'
'Frank's Rocket'
Mrs. Minky'
'Muffie'
'Mount Tom'
We decided that 'Slick Willie' and 'Rosedale Viagra' are not funny.
She dared me to post this! Cheers, Kris
PS: I bought H. rupifraga 'Europagea', H. rectifolia 'Chionea', and H.
'Lakeside Lollipop'. Accepted some other specimens from Ken Anderson,
visited some gardens, scoured the nurseries. Really had a terrific time.
Two years ago we canvassed the Twin Cities, last year it was southern
Minnesota. Next year . . .
