pods

Hi All
I'm not having too much luck with pods being set on hostas in the last
couple of weeks, which I'll blame on the weather.  I know the bees and
hummers have been busy.
What I'm curious about is how come some pods are big and plump, and
othertimes, very small?  Is this also weather related?  Does it mean
anything as to its viability?
