I can see no logical reason why species plants would not sport to variegated
forms in the wild just like they do in the garden. The problem is that in
the wild, there is seldom someone there to whip out a knife, isolate the
sport and send it off to a TC lab. Since streaked plants revert and
variegated ones don't propagate true from seed, not having access to a lab
would be a real disadvantage, evolutionary wise..
