Judy,
I assume you have Windows 95 or higher.
Maybe you did, but check in Start->Configuration_>Modems->Properties your
modemsettings.
There is a possibility to set your maximum modenspeed. Check if the setting
is 57600 or better 115200.
Check also in
Start->Configuration->Modems->Properties->Connection->portsettings if your
settings for the send and receive buffer is set at maximum and "Fifo buffer
use" is checked.
