Pat et al,
Hosta College is a function of the Great Lakes Regional - and the members
of its locals (twelve of them) that make up the regional. Part of the
dues from each member within the region goes to support HC - thus they
now get priority! As HC has grown so much in popularity, the Board of
the Great Lakes Regional wrestled with the difficult decision to limit
attendance on a priority basis, i.e. dues paying members of the member
locals get priority. If there are spaces left, non GLR members will fill
in the gap (based on postmark of their registration) up to a total
registration capacity of 500.
Activities begin on Friday (3/9) evening and then classes will be on
Saturday. The Saurday evening banquet features Mike Shadrack from
England as the speaker - an evening spent laughing until you cry. Friday
evening, Van Wade will put on a slide show of "over 100 slides and
related handouts of some of the world's best and most beautiful
hostas...... and hosta gardens on tour at national hosta conventions from
1983 to present." Later Friday evening (8:15 - 10PM) there is a judges
clinic.
There are 74 different class offerings over a six period schedule. You
take 5 courses and one lunch hour. It is a great time, great people,
great courses - al centered around growing Hosta and shade gardening.
And then there is a great bookstore and fabulous vendors with lots of
goodies to entice you to part with your cash - or the easy way, put it on
plastic.
If you are a GLR member, you most likely just got your registration
packet. I got mine a couple days ago.
