New Virus


This is a message that I received at work today.I also read about it in the 
paper. This is NOT a hoax.

From:				Desktop Tower, DuPont Information Security Office (DISO)
Event Original Date:February 12, 2001	Time:3:00 PM	Zone:EST
Event Update Date:	Time:	Zone:
Subject::   Virus Alert
Objective:   Provide information 

Functionality/Application Impacted:PC based E-mail  (Lotus Notes, Eudora, 
Outlook, etc.)

Business(es) Impacted: All Global

Description of Issue:CSC Information Security Office has reported to DuPont 
that the Internet mail gateway is catching a mail based virus called the 
ANNAKOURNIKOVA virus in significant numbers over the last few hours(about 3800 
instances).   The worm (virus) is being reported in an attachment named 
ANNAKOURNIKOVA.JPG.VBS or  ANNAKOURNIKOVA.JPEG.VBS
Subject lines include:
 "Here you go, ;o)"
 "Here you have, ;o)"
 "Here you are, :)" 
Infection by this virus on a machine with MS Outlook will result in the 
forwarding of this message to all users in the Outlook address book.   Users 
with Lotus Notes will not automatically have the virus forwarded, however they 
could pass on the virus to other users by manually forwarding the message.   

Other indications of this virus include sending the user to a particular 
website on a particular day.

Virus protection on the PC desktops and notebooks (NAV) is currently not 
capable of identifying and removing this virus.

Once Symantec has released virus definition files for the PC, these will be 
rolled out through the normal mechanisms.
