Size does not matter when making crosses in hosta. All species
cross easily with the exception of H plantaginea that is in a
separate section Of course the ease with wich hybrids can be
crossed strongly depends on their fertility. Especially hybrids with
H plantaginea have mostly a very low fertility. However by repeated
(back)crossing I succeeded in growing a venusta-like plant with
fragrance!
