I sold the holes along with the rest of the farm......but....this area was
going to be returned to agricultural use for crops.
If you already have a buyer for your old house they might not be happy about
you leaving holes. If you don't have a buyer already, the holes may reflect
poorly on your property and reduce the amount of the purchase offers you
receive.
Looks like the holes are "your" potential problem either way.
Your hostas will do much better if they are moved as dormant crowns if you
have that option. Leaf size is somewhat determined by the amount of light in
which each hosta emerges in spring. If you are moving them to a sunnier
location then you may see more leaf burn. This is one reason moving them
while dormant is better. A second reason dormant is better is because of
water stress than can result as the newly transplanted hosta in full leaf
becomes established in it's new location. Even if you do the best you can,
some fine roots are usually lost in transplanting.
